As Humans we have had a family and community drive that has been apart of our DNA for centuries. Our DNA shows that we all love to:

Work, play, laugh, succeed, and celebrate with other humans.

So why is it when it comes to starting out in a new fitness group environment our mind sends us into an overdrive panic?.

Usually the thoughts are; Will I fit in here?, What if I look stupid?, What do I wear I have to look the part, I’m scared to fail.

99% of the time we walk out of the first session thinking? “What was I so worried about?, that was the best experience ever!, everyone was so friendly, I Killed that and I cant wait to do this again!.

So what are some of my tips for starting out in a new group fitness class. I have arranged my top 5 dos and don’ts on starting in a new group environment.

Top 5 Do’s

1.   Arrive 15minutes early and introduce yourself to the trainers and other members of the class. You will be surprised how partnering up with an experienced member on your first visit can really help you.

2.   ASK QUESTIONS!. I cant stress this enough!. The only negative question is the one not asked!.

3.   Wear something that makes you feel comfortable and suits your body needs.

4.   Take rest breaks if you need them!. New styles of training can be very difficult for your body and muscle memory to adapt. Taking extra breaks can be beneficial for your experience.

5.   Get amongst the community. Add the chat groups, Instagram accounts and attend seminars or workshops. You can gain some much knowledge and friendships from the gym crew.

Top 5 Don’ts

1.   Don’t go out spending lots of money on the new gym clothes flavour of the month. Brands are overrated!.

2.   Quit after the first week!. NEVER give up after the first few sessions. Keep working at it- Each session will get better and before you know it you will be miles in front of the person you were starting off.

3.   Over commit!. Don’t train 6-7 days in the first week. You will burn out and lose your drive.

4.   Don’t stress about genders in the class. If you are the only Boy or only Girl in the class who cares!. Own that and show them all what your about.

5.   Don’t expect greatness straight away. Like anything in life “Good things come to those who wait and work hard”. If there was a magic pill I could take and it would give me the results I wanted yesterday then I would! But we all know that’s not how it works. Its going to take time, fails, achievements and success. The journey is worth the destination.

Lastly to finish- I want you all to remember- Yes, you are here for your own results but your Brothers and Sisters at Tfunc are your biggest fans and will be right beside you to watch and celebrate your achievements.
